So the hard drive on my 18month old lap top crashed on Monday..... just great, just what I wanted to deal with right before going to Canada.
Thankfully I bought the super duty warranty service package from Best Buy and they are not only fixing the hard drive for free, but they are giving me a bigger and better one! There we go super duper warranty service package paid for. I am also getting a new battery out of it too! I will give Best Buy props for having some good customer service. In recent bike news I was going to write up a report on my race last weekend (rt 66 #4, Brialee race) but I didn't have a computer and I still dont. Well I will make the recap short and simple. I was late to the start and thus had a 2nd row start behind a guy on a single speed. Go figure the other 15 guys go flying off and I am in the dust. Thanks to some secret work outs I moved up into 6th by the time we entered the single track. I kept it cool and waited for the opportunity to pass riders one by one. It took a while to do this since the course is very fast. The majority of the course is on a 4x4 track that is very rocky, so there is one clear line, but if you get off line and hit a rock you will be sent flying. About half way through the 1st lap I moved into 1st place. That was it, for the next 3 laps I was in the lead. I was getting kind of board so I started playing games like " how much air can I get off this drop?" and the Big Ring game. Well 2 laps of screwing off cost me the win. 1/2 way through the final lap I flatted!!! By the time I finished fixing the flat 3 guys passed me and John Foley just went by as I got back on my bike. My adrenaline was so high that my logic thinking shut down (what little of it I have) and I was hammering! Well I made what probably was the dumbest race move of my life. I simply made a stupid pass around John which resulted in the two of us going down. I felt like such an idiot because it caused the two of us to go down and I never wanted that to happen to a guy who I have been racing with for a number of years and to someone who I really respect as a racer. Long story short the fall cost me more time instead of waiting 15 seconds to make a safe pass around John and stay upright on the bike. I finished 3rd for the day. Next time I race I wont screw around, all business I guess. Go hard until the finish. I also got some new Stans rims, so hopefully the flatting issue will be something of the past. Right now Burns's and I are in Canada for the first round of the Canada Cup at Bromont. The race is a UCI 1 so its going to be a good one. More news coming tomorrow on the course etc.. |
