Who ever says Maine is a four season climate has a belly full of pooo. For those of us that live in Maine know there is that season that comes once a year right after winter and before spring, Mud Season!

Friday brought temps in the 40's and a day of slow steady rain fall. I went out for a ride in this weather, and it wasn't fun. Friday night Hattie and I were going to take my Saturn and head to the grocery store. Well in the previous 24hrs my parking spot had turned into a mud bog. My car had sunk into mud all the way up into its axle. It was a lost cause trying to back it up the small hill (about 10ft long and 2ft vert). So we had to take hattie's car, no big deal except my car was stuck for the weekend.

Saturday brought cloudy sky's with a small wind (10-15mph). I was able to get out for a 4 hr ride and threw down some serious intensity work outs. During my ride I thought of the wood we had in our garage. Left over from our basement project were a few 4ft long x 16in wide particle boards. I thought I could put a few of them under the front wheels of the Saturn and back it right out of the bog. When I got back from my ride I was so excited to try out my great idea I didn't even change out of my bike clothes ( I figured it could also turn into a disaster, so why take the chance of dirtying up another set of clothes). So there I am tights and jersey hunched over putting boards under my car. Turns out my genius idea worked fine and I was able to back my car out. Now for the next few weeks everyone at the 497 is going to have to play musical cars until the snow banks melt and the bog dries up.

Sunday the weather wasn't much better, cloudy 40 and light winds. I planned out a monster route that I thought would take me about 4hrs. Turns out it was wicked hilly and the ride was more like just under 5hrs. the ride was the longest/ hardest ride of the year. The legs are feeling good. Hopefully they will be able to perform at the upcoming rt 66 race on the 12th! I am not looking for a blow out win, but a top 5 would be nice.

Here is a funny photo from Cycling News by Gary Perkin / SPORTZPICS. The crash isn't funny, but the guy in the back ground pointing and laughing is. Hopefully Snyder got up and gave him a serious punch in the shoulder.

It would be cool do participate in the Cape Epic. I've been thinking about the upcoming race sched. I am going to try and hit up the 3 rt 66 races in April, the Canada Cup at Bromont, some Maine races, maybe Fitchburgh road stage race as a good build up for Mount Snow. Who knows...
