Yup you can call me captain planet for many reasons...
First off, like a super hero I dress like some. I dress in all black when it comes to riding in the winter. Black winter riding coat from Sugoi, Black Craft wind proof tights, Black Cannondale booties, Black Salsa gloves, Black balaclava plus I have some super cool future looking eye wear. So I look like a super hero Second I do super hero type things that most people dont. Like ride my bike outside when the wind gust are up to 50mph. Or when the temps are down into the single digits etc..
Third I just went from Yarmouth ME, up to Winthrop Maine on my bike yesterday. And then today I went from Winthrop Maine to the Portland Jet Port on my bike! I think I prevented putting over 150 miles on the car this weekend by commuting on my bike. Not other then was I commuting, but I was also training! I can kill two birds with one stone, more super hero like traits. The whole point of riding home this weekend was to go home for Easter. You know go to church, and the hole gig with your parents. Well I also wanted to log in some good hours this weekend. So I loaded up my LL Bean back pack which probably weighed 25-30lbs (thats counting my hydration bladder, and damn Dr. Martins weigh a lot!) and made the trip up to Winthrop. Minus the 20+mph head wind the ride home was really nice. Plus I think riding with a big back pack like that has to make you stronger somehow. Today Hattie left for FL with the USM womens track team for spring training. She wont be back until next Sunday. Its going to be lonely around the house with out her. But anyways, she left her car at the air port this afternoon and I was going to pick it up. So after riding from Winthrop to Yarmouth, I picked up the car keys and continued riding to the air port. Its a good thing it was Easter Sunday at 6pm when I went down, other wise the traffic would have been so bad getting to the airport I wouldn't have wanted to ride. But in the end I made it to the airport with out any problems and picked up Hattie's car. There is something satisfying when you can commute long distances like that on your bike. It feels nice leaving your car behind saving a few bucks on gas and telling yourself you are doing some goo for the world. I will leave you with a pic of todays ride.
Ps. Cali pics will be delayed. I thought I burned them to a CD in Winthrop, but tonight I couldn't find the pics on the CD. I must not have finished the CD or something. Hopefully I will have cali pics up by next weekend. |
