Starting from Yarmouth, the pops made it down ok, loaded up Burnsy's car and the three of us were off to Logan. Burnsy drove us down and then spent a few hours in the lab at work. This saved my pops and I from buying bus tickets down to Logan (well it saved my pops from having to buy the tickets!)
We made it through securtiy no problem. Then we had to wait a few hours for our flight. Flight out to Cali went well. I did enjoy having a tv screen and the extra leg room was nice. I woulf fly Jet Blue again.Wed night the three of us (pops, bro, myself) had a late dinner and then called it a night, It had been a long day for my pops and I. Thurs- took my brother to class in the am. Then it was off to find some Bear spray that my pops insisted we have. Turns out the bear spray was $40, so my dad decided not to buy it. After turning down the bear spray we went to buy groceries. We hit up Trader Joes for some 2 Buck Chuck ($2 bottle of wine) we got 3 bottles and some other random food. Then off to Vons. There we ran into Justins friend Evan who was going to join us up at the cabin. After loading up on groceries and not buying bear spray it was time to pick Justin up from Class and load up the car. Justins car is a small 4 door saturn. His car is the sedan version of my car. The sedan is much smaller than the wagon. The drive up to the national forest was suppose to be 5hrs. I think it took us 7. We hit some bad LA traffic and then we got lost a few times. The cabin was nice, one bedroom with a queen bed and a twin, then there was one othe room that had the kitchen/dining/ livig room all in one. Nothing big, just a nice rustic cabin in the woods. The cabin did hae electric and running water which was nice. Evan and his girl made it to the cabin around 1am? They were on the pull out in the living room Friday justin, pops, and I hiked about 12 miles. The weather was chilly at the higher elevation, but nice in the valley. That night the five of us played Trivial Pursuit from 1984? Being old helps you out in this game, Me being the youngest had the hardest time, but I did manage to beat Justin! Saturday we woke up to snow! The cabin was at about 4,500ft, so it was high enough in the mtns to get some snow. So Justin, Pops, and myself decided to drive up to Sequoia National Park, about 2 hrs away. We made it into the park and started driving up the mountain, only to be forced to turn around due to more snow! We did manage to make it to an old trail on the outside of the park that used to be the old enterance? Again it snowed the enitre hike up the mountain side. As soon as we turned around the sun came back out! We didn't get much in for hiking Sat. Sunday- Again the three of us went out for a hike. We left from the cabin and hiked up some peak, about 6.550ft! It was to bad it was a cloudy day and we couldn't see anything. We decided it would be quicker to go off the trail on our way back. Turns out it was, we cut off a mile or so. Sunday night, Justin, Evan, Evan's girl and I played pictionary. Evan wanted to be on Justin's team, his thought was that they think a'like. Evan's girl and I smoked them the first two games, the third was close, they won the third. Justin had to draw a "Cherry Tree" during an all play. I drew and a cherry and a tree, and Tatijana (spelling?) got it right off. I look over to see what Justin is drawing, turns out he is drawing a tree and some guy with an ax aka he is trying to draw George Washington cutting down a Cherry Tree. Evans drawings were just as bad sometimes. Overall it was a fun few hours where everyone laughed. Monday- pack up and clean up the camp. Again the three of us decided to go back to the National Park since the weather was so poor the last time we were there. We made it up to the Museum about 6,400 ft high. From there we checked out some of the views and then went for a 90min -2hr hike on some trails. There was about 5 ft of snow on the ground! The snow banks were above my head, and most of the speed limit signs on the road were covered in snow! |
