Burnsy and I met a man today who needs to sign up for some anger management classes....
Today was a beautiful day, sunny day and temps in the high 30's. Great day for being February and in Maine. I was able to talk Burnsy into joining me for the "Bon Bon" ride. This is a ride up to Lewiston, and then back, one big loop, in the 50 mile range. It took us about 2hrs to make it up to the cafe, 30 some miles, not to bad. On our way up we saw fellow Bikeman.com teammate Buzz . Buzz was driving a car, great training program he has going there. After recharging the batteries with some fair trade coffee from Cafe Bon-bon in Lewiston it was time to work our way back home. The mph on the way home were up and we were making good time. We decided to take 122 into Poland and then 26 into Gray, 115 home. Good plan except we were still making great time, so we decided to take rt 9 south to Falmouth, and then head home via Middle road to Portland Road. It was on Portland road that we met a very grumpy old man. The guy laid down on his horn and got real close to us. I put up three fingers and yelled out "three feet!!" in reference to Maine's new law where you have to give a cyclist 3 feet of room. I guess this really upset the driver as he laid down a patch and stopped traffic both ways. He said some unfriendly words while Burnsy's and I road around him telling him to just give us some room and to chill out. After riding around the grumpy old man, he peeled out drove around us and again slammed on the brakes leaving a nice skid mark. He again got out and said some more unfriendly words about how we shouldn't be on the road and how we were slowing down traffic. Again we told him to chill and to respect cyclist as we road around him. The man then again peeled out, this time continuing on his separate way. The few cars behind us just shook there head in disbelief that a guy got that upset because we maybe slowed him down by 10 seconds. Its too bad there are idiots like that driving around and causing danger like that. If he were to have said anything in reference to running us over I would have called the cops, but he didn't. Lucky for him. Oh well. I guess for the number of hours I spend out riding a bike I should be thankful that I don't run into that many grumpy drivers. On a semi happier note Hattie had another track meet today. Her meet was at Smith College over in North Hampton, MA. I wasn't able to make it to this one. She ran a 8.48 in the hurdles, another PR!! However, she had a false start in the finals and was disqualified. She was pretty upset because she felt good and was confident she could have ran even faster in the finals. The 8.48 should be a good enough time to guarantee her a trip to nationals. Her 4x200 relay team won the New England DIII race! A first for USM! and a new school record!! This makes 3 school records for Hattie. Her long jump didn't go so well, she fouled out, and her 200m sprint didn't go well either. I talked to her on the phone and she sounded pretty upset with the meet. She knows she still did well and is proud of her performance. I guess she just feels she kind of let the team down because she feels she could have scored points for the team in the hurdles, long jump and 200. I told her to hold her head high and she still has a lot to be proud of. She agreed and is being a great sport. Next weekend she will be down to NYC for a big meet down there. Thats it for today, time to go watch the AToC. Thank you to the guy who invented the dvr, and to the folks who came up with Netflix instant play! Probably the greatest thing ever in terms of movie rentals. ... |
