For the past three weekends I have been away from home, Long weekend in Cape Cod followed by two races in CT. I was tired and wanted to spend some time at home.

Saturday was the 3rd race in the Root 66 series down in MA. Seeing as how my asthma has been holding me back lately and I have been very tired lately I decided to save myself the effort of driving down and stay home. It was a hard call but I think it was the right one. Saturday races are hard on me. After a long week of working it is difficult to get up early, drive a few hours and expect by body to race semi fast. Instead I slept in, enjoyed breakfast and coffee with Hattie then went on for a long ride on the mtn bike with Burns.

It has been a long time since Burns and I last went on a ride together, maybe January? The two of us filled up our bottles and hydration packs, packed a bunch of bars and a few bucks for a long day in the saddle. We spun up to Bradbury, a 30-35 min ride on the road. The park was packed, upper lot was full and the lower lot looked to be quickly filling up. Seems as if the word about how great the trails are has spread. I don't think the trails have been this dry in over a year. They were ripping fast. Too bad Burns and I were not on our A game as the two of us both took a few spills. I have the cuts, scrapes and bruises to prove it too! After a few hours of getting beaten up we needed to refuel, a stop at the local bakery Linda's was needed! A homemade donut and coke would do the trick,($2.20 for the two). After refueling I had to spin over to Gray to pick up some Bontrager gear from my guy at Fisher. So off we went bombing down some back roads on our mtn bikes with a head wind in our face no matter what way we went. By the time we made it back to the 497 it had been almost 5 hours of time on the mtn bike! And it wasn't an easy 5 hours either! In my opinion a much better way of spending the day vs racing.

Sunday Burns and I decided to head back up to Bradbury since the conditions had been so great. Again we spun up to the park on our mtn bikes for our warm up. Burns had to do a few long sets of race pace intervals so we decided to race each other on some of the trails. Thankfully both of us were on our A game and kept the bikes up right because we were flying! After a few more hours of ripping around the park it was time to call it quits but first we would make another pit stop at Linda's Bakery down the street. Another coke and homemade donut would do the trick!

All said and done we logged in about 8 hours of time on the mtn bike. I really needed a weekend like this to get the motivation going. I am coming into the season behind in form from past years but that is ok. There's still a bunch of time left and again it is only April. I have plenty of time to get things going and have a strong end of season.

Thanks for reading.
