The other day I got turned down from a job and man was it a bummer.
The job market out there is horrible right now. If you think it is bad for someone who is 30 or 40 with 10+ years of experience then think about a recent college graduate with little to no experience! There is nothing worse than being told in an interview that you are qualified for the job but due to the large number of over qualified applicants and our lack of budget to train you we (the company) are going to go for someone with many years experience. I guess it is a good time to be hiring because you can hire someone who is over qualified and under pay them. Man was I bummed when I walked out of that interview. I would have rather been told we don't like you and think you smell instead of we are most likely going to go for someone with many years of experience. How are you suppose to get experience if you cant work anywhere?!?! Oh well, today I am feeling better. You can't let your self be down for too long over something so small. If you don't land a job then it wasn't meant to be. I will keep searching and find the right fit. It is kind of funny how you can relate so many things back to mountain bike racing. Say you have bad legs one Sunday during a race. You don't let one day of bad legs or a mechanical ruin the upcoming week of training. Instead you persevere and overcome the bad legs, you put the bad times behind you and focus on the good times to come. You learn from your mistakes and turn them into perfections, make your weakness into your strength. I've had my time to weep yesterday and today is a new day. Stay positive... |
