Another fun filled weekend, or lack there of is in the books.

This story goes out to Rick Is, just because I have a feeling that he has been through a similar situation. Or at least he tends to write about fiber overload a lot.

My weekend didn't start out so hot. Seems as if I ate some bad food or something on Friday morning. By the afternoon my stomach had gone bad. The bummer is that this happened on a ride. I was going to ride down to Portland and pick Hattie up from work and the two of us were going to ride home, sounded like a good idea. As I start rolling down towards Portland my stomach starts to feel more and more upset. By the time I reach Back Bay my stomach is turning around and making some loud noises. At this point I am in complete damage control- where is the closest bathroom? All I could come up with is making it to USM and hitting up the campus center which is about a mile away. I try picking up the pace but that isn't going over well and by now I am running out of time. After making it safely around Back Bay I get stuck at the stop light at Forest Ave! Damn!! I thought about just bolting across Forest Ave but then thought of the mess it would be if I actually got hit by a car. Time is still running out!! Finally green light and I bolt across Forest Ave and head straight towards the closest bathroom on Campus. I didn't even have a lock for my bike, I just threw it up against the building and ran inside. Standing inside the doorway was a sketchy looking man. He appeared to be waiting for a bus, or maybe for a free bike. Screw it, if he takes the bike then he takes the bike. I sprint across the empty campus center and head into the bathroom, finally made it to safety, But wait!! I am wearing bib shorts! Damn it! I first have to take off the vest, jacket, jersey ahh!! It was all good though, just had to add a little excitement to the ride I guess. My bike was even where I left it, so that is a plus.

I picked up Hattie just outside of the Hospital and the two of us cruised home with out any problems. I still wasn't feeling better though. I had originally wanted to head down to Portland that night and check out HeadStart! and PSC playing at the Port City Music Hall.  Instead I resorted to plan B for the night which consisted of renting a movie and staying home. Saturday I still wasn’t feeling much better. No emergencies but still my stomach was hurting. With a 8 hour shift approaching that afternoon at the S-bux I had better get my stomach under control. So I chugged a bunch of the pink stomach stuff and since then I have felt like a million bucks!

Sunday was day two of the DownEast Cyclo-cross race at Pineland Farms. The Elite Men were going off at 3:00 and I was scheduled to get out of work at 3:30. After talking with the manager I was able to be let go a little early so I could check out the last half of the men’s race. The weather was beautiful! Sunny and warm. I was all fired up to cheer on Burns and Wheel’s. By the time I made it to Pineland the men had four laps to go so I had plenty of time to heckle the boys by yelling “you need to go faster! Pedal Harder! And GO, GO, GO!!”

The race was clearly the highlight of the weekend. By being at the race it makes me wish I could afford to race cross. There is money to be made racing cross and there are a ton of UCI races located right here in NE. For now though I am going to continue to focus on my passion, mountain bikes! I need to stay focused, work and save up as much money as I can now so I can afford to race next summer.

Well that is it for now, another busy week ahead of me. Halloween is this weekend!!
