Have any of your moms/dads been on your case about something so much that you not only do it, but over do it to get them off your back for a loooonnngggg time?
So over break my mom read somewhere that people who do the majority of there exercise on the bike should run to help build bone density or mass (not sure which one, wasn't really listening). I tried telling her i walk out to pick up the news paper in the morning and walk around campus, but she wasn't buying it. She tried telling me to I should run 2 miles a week and it wouldn't hurt my training etc... I guess I should also say it wasn't really nagging, it was just a mom being a mom and doing what they do best.... worry.... A little off topic, but this story reminds me of one of my childhood good friends (Ian) younger brother Matt. Well I guess Matt was constantly bugging his pops for a twinky on a car ride. After a long time of good perserviernce of not giving up on Matts end his father cracked and pulled into a convince store to get Matt a twinky. Matts father came back with two boxes of twinkys for Matt. That night Matt ate so many twinkys he was hugging the toilet! The next day I was talking with Ian as he told me to story, I guess Matt swore to never eat another twinky. Well turns out todays weather sucked. 35 and rain, poring rain. I didn't want to ride, but somehow I had to get in several hours of cardio. Since it was raining I couldn't snow shoe. I find it helps when you have to do a several hour work out to make it into a mission. For example, find a good coffee shop 50 miles away and go get coffee! then ride back! Since today was also a gym day I decided to kill a couple birds with one stone. I would run to Portland (about 14-16 miles) and then lift. This would keep my mom off my back for 7-8 weeks and would mean i wouldn't have to drive to the gym (one less trip in the car). This thought of mine was pretty damn stupid. (Donk I should have had a V8) If you dont run on a regular basis, dont go out and run a half marathon in your hiking boots. Have you ever seen a cyclist run? we can't. its like watching a wounded deer run. My hammy's got tight, then my left foot was in some pain do to cramping. By the time i got to school my feet were killing me. As I got to the locker room and took off my boots I finally realized the damage. Blisters filled with blood on my toes, and swollen blisters on the balls of my feet. When I tried to do some lunges in the gym the blisters on my toes felt like there going to pop! good thing they didn't. The good thing about today is that I was able to put an extra 20lbs onto my squats! This meant i was able to accomplish my goal for squats which i wanted to accomplish before the New Years. I just need to stay focussed and all this work will pay off on the climbs of Mount Snow!
Now its time to sit down and kick up the legs! Take care and remember drink your V8! |
