All I can say is when you spill gas in your car it sucks!
So when I was down in PA visiting my grandparents and other family I was asked if I wanted an old kerosene heater my gramps had kicking around. I figured sure, a free garage heater would be nice. This would give off some heat when John or I wanted to wax our skis in the garage, or if anyone had any other work they wanted to do. I also figured it would be good to have a gas heater kicking around in case we lost power. Granted we do live on the same property as a major sub station and the chances of us losing power for more than a couple hours is very slim I still thought it would be a good idea since we only keep the heat just above freezing in the house (58 degrees, the thermostat wont go any lower).
Well instead of checking to see if the damn heater worked I just put it in the back of the good ol' Saturn Wagon along with all my other stuff for the drive home. When I was in MA I could smell gas. Oh shit, now i have a gas leak in my car and I am a couple hours form home. Great. There I am in a gas station parking lot trying to clean up some kerosene, just what I wanted to do. The shit smells bad! I had to drive home with two windows cracked. When I got home I tried to clean out my car, but the gas got through the rubber matts in the back of the wagon and into the carpet. Next day, took the carpet from my car to the manual car wash and presure washed them. They still smell like gas. Nuked the back of my car, cleaned it with soap and water along with a bunch of other chemicals. Someone walking by might think i was trying to cover up a murder with how well i was cleaning out the back of my car. Damn thing still smells like gas. Day 2, took the carpet back to the car wash to take the pressure washer to it, this time i used some bleach and other chemicals. Shit, still smells like gas. Weather was good today so the car got to air out, smells better. I got the heater to work today though! its pretty cool, but def not worth the hassle. Hopefully the carpet is salvageable other wise it is getting tossed. Words of advice, don't transport a gas heater in your car when its filled with gas. (donk, I should have had a V8) |
