Where I grew up: Winthrop, Maine, a small community west of Augusta. RACING DISCIPLINE(S) AND CATEGORY(S): Pro Elite MTB, Elite Cyclo-cross, A Collegiate, and Cat 2 road How I got started: I got into mountain biking by a way of transportation. In middle school I realized I could get to and from school faster by riding my bike versus taking the bus. I also realized there wasn’t really any punishment for not showing up to study hall first thing in the morning. So I would sleep in (sometimes to late) and then try to get to school as quickly as possible and sneak by the front desk. This proved to be a very effective plan. I got into racing through my high school. I went to a private boarding school, Kents Hill School, just 20 minutes away from my house. I attended Kents Hill as a day student for my entire high school career (minus a short exchange program where I attended the Orme School in AZ for the winter of my senior year). Because Kents Hill doesn’t have a physical education program the school requires everyone to participate in three sports. Mountain Biking was a varsity sport there in the fall. After my first year racing at Kents Hill I was hooked on the sport. My high school coach Todd Wheelden was a big influence on me. He really forced myself to push beyond my limits. He was a really tough guy (much softer of a guy now that he has a few kids) and I always wanted to impress him. My sophomore year a new assistant coach came along, John Kindig. This guy taught me a lot! Like Interstate 495 doesn’t take you to CT, it goes to Cape Cod! What do I do in my non biking life? Besides being a professional cyclist I am an unemployed college graduate. I attended the University of Southern Maine where I majored in Business Administration with a strong focus in advertising and marketing. I like to do a lot of stuff outside. As a young kid I was involved in boy scouts, thus I love going hiking, snow shoeing, skiing xc and dh, being out on a body of water etc.. I like good food, finding sliver on the ground, going out on dates with Hattie that don’t cost me much $, so on and so forth….
FAVORITE TRAIL OR RIDE: Races that I love: Snow Bowl when it's muddy, Bradbury Mountain, Mount Snow and Sugarloaf. I love riding on back roads that have little to no traffic and actually are paved with no pot holes. Roads like that however are hard to come across in Maine. Goals outside of biking: Well I got that college degree so check on that one. Find a job that allows me to train and race competitively in the pro ranks. Just to enjoy life, have fun and a positive attitude.
