So this weekend was the regional mount snow race. The course is/ was the exact same as the US National championships in 07 and will be again in 08. So basically if you race this past weekend you had the opportunity to race on the national course one more time.
To be honest I didn't even want to start this race. I had been camping out and the sleep wasn't 100%. I was tired and groggy. I forgot some essential camping gear do to working a full time job, training and basically being stressed so the stress release camping trip wasn't so stress releasing. On the start line I was feeling like crap, tight and heavy legs, tired, and the humidity was killing me. I didn't want to race at all. A drive home with the AC on was much more appealing to me then racing 4 laps on a wet and muddy course. It had rained all afternoon Saturday and Saturday night. Within the first minute of the race I had moved up into the lead. I told myself to continue on, you can't drop out of a race when you are in the lead. Foley was hot on my wheel and passed me on the first down hill. Going into the real big climb I moved ahead of Foley and from there on I was in the lead. Every lap I continued to increase my lead. By the time I finished the race I had put a 12 minute lead over 2nd place! Not to bad for a field of 20+ (?) of New England's top pros. My time was 2:12. Adam Craig (2007 US National Champion) won on this course with similar conditions last year with a time of 2:16. Having been at Mount Snow last year I would say that the 07 course was a little slower, but if you were to take my time this year add 6 minutes per lap on my time this year that would have put me on the podium!! So this is what I will be dreaming about for the next few weeks. |
